Philippines president Rodrigo Duterte sparks outrage for kissing for kissing woman on stage
Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has sparked outrage after he kissed an overseas Filipina worker on the lips during a live event in Seoul.
Mr Duterte was speaking to a crowd of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Seoul, South Korea, when he called two Filipina women on stage to receive a free copy of a book, then convinced one of them to kiss him. In a video of the incident, the woman is seen giggling uncomfortably and hesitating, but he kept insisting and pointing to his lips for her to kiss him.
After much cajoling, the woman, supposedly out of respect, leaned in and kissed him and the scene drew cheers from the crowd, mostly made up of other Philippine workers.
Though the woman involved later said that there was "no malice" in the kiss, the President's action has been described as "disgusting theatrics of a misogynist president" by Philippines rights group Gabriela.
It is not the first time Mr Duterte has been accused of inappropriate behaviour towards women.
Following his latest action, social media users took to various online platforms to call him out.
