This is the poignant last photograph taken by a British tourist of her boyfriend - showing a cliff wall in the background they were to fall to their death from only hours later.
Louise Benson snapped the picture of her boyfriend Michael Kearns smiling in front of the beach cliff face their bodies were found at the base of yesterday morning.
The Brit-Aussie couple, who were holidaying in Portugal, died when they fell 30 metres from a wall at Pescadores (Fisherman's) Beach.
Local media reported the pair may have been trying to take a 'selfie' and lost their balance.
In one of the last pictures Ms Benson, 37, posted to social media, it shows her boyfriend Michael Kearns, 33, smiling as the two enjoy a wine in the European sunshine.
The photo was taken the day before the couple plunged to their deaths.
The cliff from which the couple fell, Fisherman's Point, can be seen in the background.
It's understood the couple were staying at a local hotel in the area.
Their bodies were found by a fisherman on the beach below the cliff wall at 6am.
Local media said he initially thought the pair were sleeping but when he got closer he saw a “scene of horror”.
A couple who fell to their deaths from a cliff at a beach in Portugal are from Perth.
Fly-in-fly-out worker Michael Kearns and his partner Louise Benson, a British national, died after plunging 30 metres in the seaside town of Ericeira in the early hours of yesterday morning.
The bodies of the couple, both believed to be aged in their 30s, were found in the sand by a beach cleaner, local media has reported.
"A mobile was found [at the bottom of] on the sea wall which indicated they might have been taking a selfie when the phone fell - they leaned over to get it and fell," he said.
Their deaths are not being treated as suspicious.
